DOC Panel House – Shirley, MA
Department of Corrections Panalized Housing Program Boehm Architecture, Panel System Design, Building Detailing and Full Documentation, Coordination with the DOCA multi-phase project that began as a workshop with the Boston Architectural College. The ultimate purpose of the project is devoted to reducing recidivism for Massachusetts inmates through a construction based program leading to contractor certification. A panelized house design was developed along with a sustainable panel system making use of modifications to standard construction methods. The system employs efficient framing methods, diagonal strapping, and two layers of rigid insulation. A pilot run of the system led to the creation of a prototype house currently used for the DOC’s reintegration program for mothers coming to the end of their sentence.
