Steedman  Fellowship Competition Entry – 2008

Addressing the shrinking population of St. Louis by suggesting the insertion of culturally fertile concentrations of activity called “Knowledge Nodes.” These centers are spread through the city and act as activators for the growth of knowledge – bringing in experts from outside of St. Luis, and invigorating local inhabitants through exchange and interaction. A specific “Art Node” is developed for demonstration purposes. The Art Node begins as an installation project, disassembling a local mill building in preparation for a variety of site specific installations and the construction of artists residences. Follow up stages include a large blank space for grand scale installations, and an interstitial zone for smaller galleries, performances and demonstrations. Guest resident artists come to teach and install art works, while interacting with other interested local participants.
